Glossary

While undertaking research, you or your students may come across some terms that may need explaining, so we have made it easy for you below.

Habitat

The native environment where an animal or plant naturally lives or grows.

Hardwood

Tree species that have hard and dense wood, and include the eucalypts. Timber from natural hardwood forests is frequently used in hardwood flooring and furniture.

Harvesting

The felling of trees, either as a group selection operation or a thinning or a clearfelling operation.

Hazard reduction burning

Burning of accumulated fuels to reduce fire fuel & thereby reduce the risk and impact of wild-fire.
