Private Forestry Services Queensland – field days open to agricultural industry and teachers

14 September 2017

Private Forestry Services Queensland (PFSQ) is a not-for-profit association established to undertake activities that will contribute to the development, stability and prosperity of an ecologically sustainable regional forestry industry in Queensland with reference to private forestry.

PFSQ is undertaking a three-year program Provision of the Private Native Forestry Extension Program, an initiative of the Queensland Department of Fisheries and Forestry, to raise landholder capacity and understanding of best practice native forest management. They are running a number of field days and workshops over the next 2.5 years around Queensland that may be of interest to teachers as a FREE TO ATTEND professional learning opportunity to discover more about:

  • Grazing land management and tree density
  • The latest update on Legislation, Code of Practice, Trigger Maps & Notification of a Forest Practice
  • Calculating tree density for optimal management
  • Compare growth data
  • A great mapping app for your phone
  • Fire management

These field days would provide good professional learning for agricultural teachers, geography teachers and others wishing to learn more about the inclusion of forestry contexts into the agriculture, maths and science classrooms. The scientific research data presented at the field days would also be useful for student extended agricultural investigations as well as for science extended experimental investigations.

PFSQ would be very happy to tailor a field day or workshop specifically focussing on the curriculum outcomes your school or regional cluster requires. Please contact them for further details – pfsq@bigpond.com and check their website for more information: https://pfsq.org.au.
