ForestLearning Brings Timber, Biodiversity and Industry Voices to DATTA Vic Conference

22 October 2025

ForestLearning will join forces with educators and industry at the 2025 DATTA Vic Conference, Mission: Innovate, to showcase how timber design projects can inspire sustainable thinking in classrooms.

The hands-on workshop will launch two new curriculum-aligned units, Designing for Biodiversity and The Phone Stand Project, developed in partnership with DATTA Vic. These projects guide students through the design process while exploring renewable materials, ethical decision-making and practical workshop skills.

The session will be presented by Beth Welden, Program Manager at ForestLearning, who leads the development of national curriculum-aligned resources that connect schools with Australia’s forest and wood products industries; Claire Bailley, STEAM Learning Specialist at Yarra Hills Secondary College, who brings classroom expertise in integrating traditional woodwork with modern technologies and design thinking; and Mahalia Barter, Stewardship Graduate with HVP Plantations, who brings authentic industry insight from her work in threatened species management, revegetation and native forest stewardship.Together, the panel will demonstrate how hands-on timber design projects align with real-world forestry and conservation practices, giving teachers powerful ways to connect the Design and Technologies curriculum with sustainability and biodiversity outcomes.

Teachers will also have access to a trade stand featuring ForestLearning’s free classroom resources, including lesson plans, production guides, slide decks and videos designed to support Years 5–10 Design and Technologies classrooms.
