Forestry Careers on Show at Regional NSW Career Expos

22 October 2025

In late July, Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) and Hurfords Hardwood both attended and showcased forestry careers at the Northern Rivers Careers Expo in Lismore. FCNSW also represented the industry at the Bathurst Careers Expo, continuing its strong focus on connecting students with sustainable career opportunities.

Staff from Hurfords Hardwood and FCNSW spoke with students about pathways into the forest and wood products sector, highlighting the breadth of roles spanning environmental science, engineering, harvesting, transport, manufacturing, design, and fire management. Students also learned how the sector contributes to renewable building materials and climate solutions

Linking Careers, Sustainability and Real-World Learning

The forest and timber industries are one of Australia’s largest renewable resource sectors, supporting more than 22,000 jobs in NSW and contributing $2.4 billion annually to the state’s economy

Career expos like these help students connect their classroom learning in science, geography, and design with real-world applications and the many and varied job opportunities in sustainable industries of forest and wood products.

ForestLearning’s ForestVR and classroom resources further support teachers to build student awareness of these career opportunities, making forestry relevant, accessible and inspiring for the next generation.
