Term 3 Preview: New ForestLearning Resources to Inspire Your Classroom

ForestLearning is set to launch a new suite of free, curriculum-aligned teaching resources throughout Term 3, co-designed with peak teacher associations, educators and forest and wood products industry professionals to bring sustainability, maths, timber product design thinking, and forest science to life across primary and secondary year levels.

Here’s what’s on the way:

Design and Technologies

Enhancing Biodiversity – The Nesting Box Project (9–10)

Updated with new teacher tips and professional learning, this popular unit invites students to design and construct nesting boxes for hollow-dependent species.

First Nations Timber Toys and Tools (5–6)

Students explore traditional technologies and design their own toy or tool, honouring First Nations perspectives and sustainable resource use.

Forest and Wood Product Supply Chain Card Game (7–10)

Explore the forest-to-frame journey with a fun, visual card game—great for careers education, D&T, and agriculture classrooms.


HASS / Geography

How Important Are the Trees Around Us? (3–4)

Students map, measure, and investigate trees in their local environment, linking sustainability, place, and the importance of trees in our lives.

What is the Relationship Between Carbon in Trees and Human Action? (5–6)

A critical thinking unit that connects geography with climate, exploring forests as carbon sinks and the role of land management in sustainability.

Mathematics

Tree Carbon Storage Tape Measure Lesson Series

These new visual and practical lessons allow students to use the ForestLearning Tree Carbon Storage Tape Measure to explore measurement, data, and environmental maths and apply it to real world case studies:

  • F–2: Measuring Nature – Exploring Tree Parts Up Close
  • 3–4: Every Tree Tells a Story – Unlock the Secrets Through Measurement
  • 5–6: How Many Trees Does it Take?
  • 7–8: Circles, Carbon and Climate – A Maths Mission in the Forest
  • 9–10: Can a Tree Clean the Air? Let’s Do the Maths!
  • 11–12: Maths in Nature – Measuring What Trees Do for Earth

 

All of these resources will be released progressively throughout Term 3 at forestlearning.edu.au/resources, ready to download and use straight away. Each includes teacher guides, student activities, and curriculum codes aligned to Version 9.0.
